500 Hour Teacher Training

The Dharma Yoga Life of a Yogi (DY LOAY) 500-hour Teacher Training is an opportunity for certified teachers to take an in-depth look at the entire sacred science of yoga through the lens of Yogi Sri Dharma Mittra’s experience with his guru and his half-century of practice and teaching. Areas of focus include the Dharma II and III class series. All teacher trainings are now being offered both live, in-person at the Dharma Yoga Center and are live streamed through Zoom, simultaneously recorded, and then available to all participants on demand through Teachable for one calendar year.

Topics Covered

At the 500-hour level, the emphasis is on taking one’s personal practice to the next level and on mastering and learning the mechanics of sharing the Dharma II and III class series. Also covered at the 500-hour level are:

Physical anatomy
Self Knowledge, Pranayama (breathing exercises —
both practice and teaching)
Guiding Deep Healing Relaxation
Practice and guiding meditation
Assisting and adjusting yoga asana
Yoga philosophy

Additionally, you will will be responsible for independent work completing assignments in reading, writing, initiated home programs in breathing, meditation, Ahimsa (non-violence), diet, self-practice of Dharma II and III, teaching in your home community and Karma Yoga-Selfless Dharma Yoga Community Service.

Requirements

The main requirement is to have a desire to help others and guide them on their yoga journey. All applicants to this program must have a 200-hour certification from Dharma Yoga or a Yoga Alliance approved 200-hour certification that is recognized by Dharma Yoga. All applicants are required to have had at least 50 hours of Dharma Yoga instruction. To the extent possible, such instruction should consist of attending classes with Sri Dharma Mittra, retreats or workshops with him, or classes with Dharma Yoga Registered Teachers (DYRTs) who have extensive training under him. If necessary, you can satisfy this requirement by attending Sri Dharma Mittra’s streaming classes via Zoom as well as AloMoves, YogaVibes, OmStars, or Vimeo. Please note that the DY LOAY 500-hour TT is an advanced training immersion expressly for serious seekers and dedicated aspirants.

Schedule

Days will begin at 7am EST and end around 9pm EST. There will be one main mid-day break for lunch as well as 10 minute breaks throughout.

Applications are processed in the order received. We recommended that you apply early to ensure availability. Payment of the Application Fee can be made online. Please note that the final application deadline is 14 days prior to the start date of any offered DY LOAY TT.

All tuition payment information will be sent to you upon acceptance into the program.

In order to achieve certification, you must to our satisfaction complete and submit all pre-training homework assignments, attend every session of the contact hours during the actual immersion program, achieve a passing grade on both the written and oral exams given during the contact hours of the training, complete all of the assignments given during the training where applicable, and complete and submit all supporting documentation and assignments relating to the post-immersion internship. Please note that in addition to assignments in reading and writing prior to your training, you will be expected to begin shifting over to a vegetarian diet and you will be asked to keep a vegan diet during the onsite immersion.

Financial Assistance is available for qualified candidates who demonstrate financial need, an earnest desire to help spread the teachings of Sri Dharma Mittra and have been connected in some way to the larger Dharma Yoga community prior to application. Meeting the eligibility guidelines for the DY work-study scholarship is not a guarantee that you will receive one. Financial Aid is determined based on the degree of need, annual household income, the ratio of worthy applicants to resources devoted to Financial Aid and the applicant’s sincere desire to become a Certified Dharma Yoga Instructor (DYRT).

Candidates must apply for, be accepted into the Dharma Yoga Life of a Yogi Teacher Training program and pay the $2,000 reservation deposit to secure a place in the training before applying for Financial Aid. To apply for Financial Aid, request the DY LOAY TT Scholarship Application Form from us. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis up to 1 month before the start date of each training. Please note that the Dharma Yoga Center is not a non-profit, has no endowment fund and receives no federal or state funding for its programs. Most often if financial aid is awarded based on a variety of factors, it will only cover a percentage (15-20%) of the overall tuition.
